Phyllis' twin brother Dennis Murphy, passed away from ALS in April
1999 at the age of 48. Her sister Maxine Rufener succumbed to the
disease in April 2004 at age 65. She comes from a family of 14
children and understands the importance of Family Support.
"We learned by trial and error with Dennis. We understood more of
what we needed to do and in what direction we needed to go when
Maxine was diagnosed. The ALS Family Support Group of Ohio, Inc. is
made up of members who have ALS, their families, friends and
caregivers and people like myself who have (been there). We can't be
there to hold your hand all of the time, but we want to be that hand
you can reach out and grab when you need something to hang on to."
This is the hand of friendship and an avenue of family support
extended to those who are suffering from or dealing with ALS. Reach
out and meet others who care and offer their support in the trying
times of this horrible disease.
